Saint George University

Campus for Health & Wellbeing
The rejuvenated campus located in the heart of Beirut will provide a setting for students to learn from experts in their field.

The design concept was informed by the intellectual heritage of the site and addressed the changing topography and built form of the architecture which divided the site into spaces. This created opportunities to create a variety of spaces with differing character and uses.

Its location adjacent to Saint George Hospital University Medical Centre, affords a natural connection between students and practitioners from the hospital.

A formal arrival square will provide a simple legible aesthetic with subtle yet dynamic features including a central water feature which defines the main north-south axis of the site. The university commons, located to the south of the site, is designed for flexible use such as for social events, graduation, and other university gatherings. Clear, functional routes between faculties elegantly divide expanses of lawn, with informal seating for students.
Two communal terraces overlook the commons, accessed via amphitheatre style seating and steps and offer informal spaces to sit and gather. A rooftop space provides the opportunity for amenity and a roof top running track with adjacent terraces for exercises such as yoga classes. A series of smaller intimate garden spaces sit closer to building edges, with an interface to the existing public realm linking to the university hospital site.
