VIA Zweibrucken

Retail as an experience
Curating a new garden experience to enhance an existing retail development.

The team at Realm were appointed to develop a series of soft landscape planting schemes to complement and enhance new architectural interventions to an existing retail outlet. Working with the local Architects, a series of new planting areas were introduced to create verdant streetscapes, improve the biodiversity, and provide opportunities to dwell.

Plants proposed were carefully reviewed to ensure their suitability for the regional climate and the site microclimate. The hardiness rating of each species was used as an indicator to inform the process. The planting design seeks to afford a varying character for these different areas to aid wayfinding and create a pleasant and memorable visitor experience which differs throughout the year.
The planting palette chosen seeks to create a strong evergreen structure as a constant backdrop to other plants selected for individual seasonal characteristics, to create a colourful and texturally interesting effect throughout the year, for the different streets and plazas within the retail village.
